A common question we often get from customers is why their Power BI Reports & Dashboards are loading so slowly.
It’s a simple answer: You are using an under powered device to run the VuePilot software. If the slow rendering times are bothering you you will need to upgrade to a more power device.
Why?
Power BI is a very heavy and slow web application that renders charts and graphics. It runs a lot of Javascript on page load, consumes a lot of memory and requires a decent amount of processing power to render the page properly.
Any standard desktop PC will be able to handle this fine, however if you are using a Raspberry Pi or a Chromecast / Google TV device, this will obviously be much slower and less powerful then your desktop PC and is simply not up to the task.
A standard desktop PC may also have 16GB of RAM available, a much more powerful CPU along with a powerful enough video processor for everyday work usage.
A Raspberry Pi will often have 1GB, 2GB or 4GB RAM, a much less powerful CPU that often has only passive cooling and a much less powerful video processor.
A Chromecast even less again.
This is a little bit like using a small compact car to tow a boat up a hill and wondering why its moving so slowly.
How To Fix?
Use a more powerful device. It’s as simple as that. Avoid using compute sticks, Raspberry Pis or Chromecasts.
The number of charts and graphs you are displaying will also have an impact on the load time of a report. The load time of a report with 1 chart and 100 datapoints will be much faster than trying to load a report with 10 charts each with 100 points etc
The load time of your report has nothing to do with the VuePilot software and everything to do with the hardware you are using to render the heavy Power BI reports.
The VuePilot software will load your Power BI reports and dashboard in a Chromium browser window, the same as it would be on your desktop PC.
Try installing the VuePilot software on your desktop PC and loading the Power BI reports via the app to see for your self the difference a poperly powered machine can make.
