A common issue we hear of often is regarding the software mysteriously uninstalling itself.
The VuePilot software does not uninstall itself, this is happening as a result of an automatic VuePilot upgrade and the security software or the anti virus software on your machine is detecting the upgrade as some sort of malicious activity which results in the new updated executable being removed or quarantined.
When the VuePilot software starts, it will check our servers for a new version of the software and if it finds any, it will download this version but not actually install it yet. The next time the software restarts it will install this newly downloaded version. It is designed to keep the software up to date in a minimally invasive way without requiring any intervention.
When an automatic update occurs, a secondary piece of software runs and stops the running VuePilot application, it then replaces this running binary with a newly updated binary and then restarts the software.
This is fairly standard practice for automatic upgrading software. Anti virus and security software platforms can sometimes detect this as a virus or something suspicious and it will simply delete the newly installed binary.
Solution 1 (Recommended): Whitelist the software
You should whitelist the VuePilot software in your security software or anti virus software so that it does not delete the VuePilot software. Once you have marked the VuePilot software as safe it should not interfere with the updates again.
How this is done is dependent on whatever product you are using.
Solution 2 (NOT Recommended): Disable automatic updates / Manual upgrades
You can disable automatic updates from the settings panel on the VuePilot software. Once you have done this, the VuePilot software will no longer attempt to automatically update itself.
You will need to ensure that you check for new versions of the software on a a regular basis and then download and install the latest versions to keep up to date.
The installer can simply be re-run over the top of your existing install which will update the software. You will not need to reactivate your licenses or reconfigure your screens.
